Political Cartoon
This image represents the American government’s role in maintaining support of the Vietnam War. By hiding the Pentagon Papers and distorting America’s role in Vietnam, the government destroyed any hope of retaining the people’s faith in the government. The media released all of the cover-ups and revealed to the people of the government’s lies. As a result, the conservative movement grew, which favored small government. This cartoon shows how the people blamed Nixon and Johnson for all of the country’s problems. The symbolic nature of the scissors emphasizes the belief that the President is censoring the country and essentially cut it apart. No longer do the people have any faith in the powers of the federal government.
