History
These years were almost one year before the French had left Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos to its own devices. The battle of Dien Bien Phu caused this to happen, after France no longer had control over the area, a new leader in Vietnam rose to power under a communist regime. Ho Chi Minh, the North Vietnamese leader soon set his sights on the non-communist South Vietnam. After years of political attack, the Viet Cong slowly start their hidden attacks in South Vietnam in 1959. In 1955, the U.S. begins sending aid to South Vietnam.
