Political Cartoon
This cartoon represents how the people felt that all of the government agencies and political figures were above the law, and as a result, could do whatever they wanted. The Watergate Scandal increased theses feelings tremendously and ultimately resulted in the forced resignation of President Nixon. The War Powers Act was signed to limit the powers of the president, especially after Nixon blatantly abused his power to put troops in Cambodia (with whom the United States was not at war with) indefinitely in order to further Nixon's personal political agenda. This cartoon symbolizes the rift between the public and the government, which was worsened by the Vietnam War. As a result, the general citizens did not believe in politicians or their intentions, a sentiment that has carried over into the 21st century.
