"For What It's Worth"
In the song "For Whats Its Worth" by Buffalo Springfield, they reference to a "over there". This over there is very likely talking about Vietnam and the ongoing war. Now a line farther along in the song says "Everybody look - what's going down?". This clearly says that everyone needs to see what is going on in this over there know as Vietnam. Now "Young People speaking' their minds/Getting so much resistance from behind" means that the baby boomers of the generation coming to age just now are receiving lots of backlash from their parents and the generation before them. This song not only speaks to the fact that the war is being ignored but also to other events such as the draft with the line of "It starts when you're always afraid Step out of line, the men come and take you away" This speaks to the mothers and fathers having their sons ripped away from them. The feelings of abandonment during the war by the United States government occurs in the song, as lots of Americans feel as though Washington has chosen the path of greed and corruption in the role of superpower rather than maintaining the democratic-republic principles of the Founding Fathers.
